Position Description:

Be involved in projects with our Fire and Life Safety (FLS) Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

This opportunity provides technical assistance and guidance for the main office in Iraq regarding due diligence, contracts, and tenders technical reviewing, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic sprinklers, fire alarms, mass notification systems, smoke control, egress analysis, and building and fire code analysis review and compliance

Responsibilities

Supervise the overall health of projects

• Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements. This will include familiarity with both ICC and NFPA codes, including IBC and NFPA 101.

• Develop and maintain project financial projections and equipment projections

• Assist in the commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.

• Scope out fire protection engineering and permitting requirements by the client for applicable projects

• Evaluate fire protection engineering and contractors

• Develop and Review design layouts for compliance with building and fire code requirements

• Producing fire safety strategy documents to inform and support the chosen building form throughout the design process.

• Design of fire protection and life safety systems including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection, and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.

• Prepare fire engineering calculations including smoke modeling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modeling.

• Following quality control review processes for all project documentation.

• Preparing technical reports/specifications.

• Participating in department initiatives.

Handle subcontracts and suppliers

• Oversee budget for and make selections of trade partners and suppliers.

• Handle billings and contract management, including contract buyouts.

• Supervise the 3-D coordination process to resolve all conflicts prior to installation

• Direct and handle the commissioning process on the project inclusive of the startup plan, COT, commissioning schedule, and functional testing.

• Lead required activities in the project closeout inclusive of operations and maintenance manuals, model turnover, and training.

• Develop fire protection-related commissioning plans.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Lead Assistant Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s)

• Provide job assignments and lead career development

• Provide ongoing feedback on work performance

Function as the main point of contact with the client and on-site representative

• Assist with the review of the owner agreements for fire protection-related issues

• Provide frequent interactions and service to build positive relationships and future work opportunities

Qualifications

• Demonstrate ability to fulfill development to closeout responsibilities for complex projects

• Detail orientation sufficient to organize and run multiple project tasks

• Possess a basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices

• Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level

• Positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills

• Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies

• Current driver’s license

• 3+ years of fire protection and life safety Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated familiarity with NFPA 855, NFPA 72, NFPA68, and NFPA 69, including the development of Hazard Mitigation Analysis, Fire Risk Assessments, and Failure Modes and Effect Analysis

• Certification/Designation as an Engineer in Training

• Knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural, Mechanical, and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience

• Fire Protection Engineer / Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred
